During UTA Libraries Online Downtime
May 26, 2005
Sarah Jones
WAC has been hard at work the past few months considering the library's web site and how to make it better -- easier to use and nicer to look at. In particular, we've been looking at the UTA Libraries Online home page (http://library.uta.edu/) and the drop-down navigation menus for the site. Now, after much deliberation and several drafts and revisions, we are ready to present to you our proposal for a new layout and look for the library's home page. Please note a few things about this proposal:
- What you'll be looking at, at this point, is a "mockup" -- that is, it's a representation of our vision for the home page.
- Some specifics in the mockup will change: for one, the specific photograph you see in the mockup will NOT appear on a live version of the library home page. However, there are characteristics of that photo that would appear in the actual photos we would use: a setting that is recognizably a library, people who are representative of the library's student and faculty user populations, and people whose manner and expressions encourage the viewer to feel engaged with the library and the library's web site.
- The categories (Research Tools, Services, Libraries & Collections, About the Libraries) and the items listed under each of those will be clickable links to library web pages. The specific items listed under each category may change based on the decisions WAC will make regarding the drop-down navigation menu for the site.
Please send us your comments or suggestions on the proposed new design of the UTA Libraries Online home page. You can send them to WAC at library-wac@listserv.uta.edu
