Web Advisory Committee Minutes, February 28, 2005

Attending: Marie I., Gretchen T., Barbara H., Suzanne B., James W., Cathy S. Marie called the meeting to order and facilitated discussion.
Announcement: WAC meeting for March 14, 2005 will be cancelled
Discussion re "Research Tools" menu:
- General consensus is that there are too many items under the menu heading "Research Tools."
- The "Find ..." concept is good. We agreed to keep this terminology for most (if not all) the items under the "Research Tools" menu.
- Include "Find Websites."
- Replace "Find GIS Resources" with a more general heading such as "Find Data" or "Find Data Sets" or "Find Data/Statistics."
- Retain "Library Catalog" link under "Research Tools" even though there will be a direct link to the Library Catalog on the homepage.
- The "Research Help" heading is problematic. Long discussion folllowed about what to call this heading that will include links to RefWorks, Course Guides, Subject Librarians, and information for UTA classes. No decision was made, and the subject has been tabled until next meeting.
- General support for Gretchen's suggestions for redesign although Suzanne would like to break out Journals and Newspapers.

Assignments for next meeting on March 28, 2005:
- Barbara will consolidate suggestions for "Research Tools" menu.
- Revisit the "Research Help" heading question -- what to call it and what to include within it.
- Consider changes to "Services" menu and submit suggestions to the group.
