Offering Google Scholar on UTALO (Irwin/Wellvang)
Jim's comments (sent in email before themeeting): "I don’t know how the discussion on Google Scholar will evolve but if we do make it available I certainly would like to have links to our paid journal titles available. I don't know how that works but it looks as if UT Austin has something going in that direction"
ACTION:
WAC wants it. We'll make sure IOP and DLS are on board with staff who would do the work, then we'll bring it to LMT as an informational item.
-
CMS news (Jones/Irwin)
Update from Marie:
- UTA is at the "very beginning stages" of looking at a CMS (e.g. 1-2 years before UTA would do anything)
- Theirs would probably be a campus/institutional license
- We will be in on the process in some way
- But, we still need something in the meantime
- Marie and Sarah are doing preliminary research to make a proposal to Gerald, and also to see how to fit it all in with the existing strategic plan implementation projects
- Marie recommended to Gerald:
- Keep on w/ the intranet, don't spend too much wrt to either money or time
- Do something re: CMS in conjunction with the intranet for the following year
- Marie will say something about this at a January LMT so people know what's up (e.g. Jan 12 or Jan 26)
- We'll have a server to experiment with an implementation in Jan/Feb 2006. We need to experiment before we can estimate real implementation costs/requirements/etc
ACTION:
*sigh*
-
Other:
- WAC report to LMT (Jones)
- The Q1 report was on the agenda for last week's LMT, but there was ice, so she'll go to the Jan 12th LMT to do the report.
- LIFT Transcoder update (Irwin)
- Funding got approved around Thanksgiving
- We've got a discount if we buy in December 2005, so we may make that if timing works out w/ Procurement
- Message Boards update? (Trkay)
- It's the same server as for the CMS. Marie will be asking OIT what's up.
Next Meeting: Tuesday, January 10, 2006, 1:30-3:00 pm, B-29 meeting room
