1. What to work on next?
- Continue adjusting home page design and general look-and-feel
- Resources by Subject (4.3.3 strategy for this year) -- in progress
- Resources for You
- Use/audience targeting
- Content choice/development
- Layout for understandability/scanability
- Other sections of internal pages to reevaluate
- Locations
- Hours
- Use the Movable Type (blog software) installation that is on swiss -- SEL in progress
- Display of UT Arlington owned DVDs, with images and descriptions, on the web site. As an extract from Voyager? -- in progress
- Usability program things -- in progress
(as an FYI) The UT Arlington calendar supports sub-calendars now and Maggie may be looking to have a UT Arlington Library calendar included for Library events that she posts to the campus calendar. If this happens, we could link to it. Also, it looks like sub-calendars are, to an extent, skinable, so we could include at least part of the library web site header (not sure about library web site top navigation)
ACTION
(see below)
2. New content/platform development ideas -- where do they come from / who creates the content / who maintains the content? (e.g. Using a wiki for research pages)
Discussion points:
- Relatedly, if somebody decides to do a wiki on their own, how much flexibility do we provide?
- consistency on behalf of users should be a priority, and Libns going off and doing their own thing and recreating [X] isn't so good…vs ..
- We should not hold back people who want to do things .. Though.. There are others who don't keep up pages they already have …
- should librarians even have their own web page?
- maybe we have too many of these things
- is a wiki even a good platform for something like subject pages?
- how much autonomy and creativity do we allow? And in what venue?
3. Implementing IM Reference in Spring - where to put on pages? (Beckett)
Discussion:
- Integrate Meebo chat widgets for the spring semester launch of IM reference
- Start with web presence in the context of General Reference
- GIS !!!!
- Propose to WebVoyage Advisory Committee
- Link to a Meebo widget page in the header?
- Link in the Research Resources left sidebar?
- Widget in the Research Resources right sidebar?
- Sarah will put together some samples to show around
4. UPDATE: hosting a PDF version of the DVD list on the web site (Jones)
- Ramona's not sure. Haven't heard from Faedra yet
- C.D. will find the info that talks about copyright and scanned book cover images
UPDATE: Resources by Subject (Suzanne)
Information Architecture is about done
Will get with Sarah about plans for building it
5. A couple of library homepages/recent redesigns: Georgia State University Library, Univ of Alaska Anchorage/Alaska Pacific University, Ithaca College. UT Austin (just to take a look…) (Jones)
6. Also we'll mockup a home page with the library logo so we can take a look
Next Meeting: Tuesday, December 19, 2006, 1:30-3:00 pm, B-29 meeting room
